ATE - Alfred Teves

Bofors

Bofors, 130 years older than the United States

There are many companies, especially in the machine-building and mining industries, whose histories date back to the misty beginnings of Swedish economic life. Often they began as a small forge or smithy, which grew into a bruk. The bruk, a typically Swedish institution, was originally a type of country estate on which iron-melting, rather than agriculture, was the chief occupation.

From these early manorial establishments, an unbroken process of economic development led to the modern industrial concerns of today.

One of the oldest and largest of these is the Bofors Company, founded in 1646 as a village smithy. Today Bofors is a world renowned weapons-maker. The Bofors 40-mm. automatic gun, for example, was perhaps the most widely employed piece of artillery in World War II.

Volvo now draws upon the vast experience and resources of Bofors for more peaceful ends. Crankshafts, gear blanks, and other Volvo forgings and steel parts which have helped create the Volvo reputation for quality come from Bofors.

Jensen im Familienbesitz verkauft to the Norcros Group, Kapital für Erweiterung 70.000 sq ft

Jensen Motors Ltd was a British manufacturer of ports cars and commercial vehicles, based in the Lyng - West Bromwich (in the West Midlands, west of Birmingham).

Volvo P1800: In 1960 Jensen won a contract from Volvo to assemble and finish the bodies for their P1800 coupé. Pressed Steel manufactured the body-shells at their Linwood plant in Scotland and shipped them to Jensen Motors Ltd in West Bromwich to be finished, painted and trimmed, before then being shipped to Sweden where Volvo completed the final build.

Jensen began as a small coachbuilding firm run by brothers Richard and Alan Jensen; they bought out the body works of W.J. Smiths & Sons where they worked after the owner's death and renamed it Jensen Motors in 1934.

The company had come under the control of the Norcros Group in 1959 and following disagreements Alan and Richard Jensen resigned in 1966.
